Businesses in Bangladesh keep accounts in five ways: free mobile ledger apps, Excel templates or Excel-based software (a few thousand taka once), desktop software on a one-time licence, cloud software on a monthly or annual fee, and custom ERP built for the business. Cost depends on users, branches, modules, set-up and annual support; comparing licence prices alone is misleading.
This guide gives no prices for named brands, because prices and packages change often. It shows which kind of solution suits which size of business and what to ask when you request a quote. We mention the price of our own product, which we know.

Five kinds of solution
| Type | Cost model | For whom | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile ledger app | Usually free or a small monthly fee | Very small shops, credit and daily sales only | No stock, P&L or audit-ready books |
| Excel template / Excel-based software | Free templates to a few thousand taka once (our Excel ERP is BDT 2,999) | One shop, a few hundred products, one user | Hard with several branches or users; backups are on you |
| Desktop software, one-time licence | Licence plus yearly update and support fees | Single-office trading or service businesses | Remote work and extra branches cost more |
| Cloud software | Monthly or annual fee per user or package | Several branches, mobile access | Stop paying and access stops; check data export terms |
| Custom ERP | One-time development plus annual maintenance | Manufacturing, distribution, groups, special processes | More time and money; choosing a good developer matters |
What drives the price
- Number of users and how many work at the same time
- Number of branches, warehouses or companies
- Modules: accounts only, or stock, POS, payroll, production and VAT registers too
- Set-up: chart of accounts, opening balances, importing old data
- Training and support in the first months
- Annual support, updates and hosting

Hidden costs that quotes leave out
- Entering opening balances and old data, often left to your own staff
- Someone to make correct entries; software does not keep books by itself
- Going back to Excel at year-end if the software cannot produce audit reports
- The cost of getting your data out if you switch
Questions to ask for a quote
- What is the total cost in year one, and every year after?
- How many users and branches are included?
- Who enters opening balances and old data?
- Does it produce a year-end trial balance, financial statements and party-wise lists directly?
- Are there VAT and withholding tax registers?
- If we cancel, in what format do we get our data?
- Can we talk to two clients like us who use it?
Frequently asked questions
What is cheapest for a small shop?
For credit and daily sales only, a free mobile app or our free shop accounts template. If you also need stock and P&L, the Excel ERP.
When is custom ERP needed?
When your processes do not fit standard software: production stages, job costing, accounts for several companies together. See EOMSBD's ERP software.
Does buying software make the audit easier?
Software only stores entries. Audits get easier when entries are correct, banks reconcile and documents are organised. You need both the software and the accounting discipline.
